SA: Two bee sting deaths in a day prompt allergy warnings
Two bee sting deaths on the same day in South Australia have today prompted warnings
to those with allergies to be prepared.
A 25-year-old man riding a motorcycle died from a bee sting at Keith, in the state's
south-east, on Tuesday afternoon.
Only hours earlier, a man died after being stung about 50 times while removing the
top of a chimney at an Adelaide college.
Both are believed to have suffered allergic reactions, and died within minutes of being stung.
SA Ambulance spokesman LEE FRANCIS says those with pre-existing allergies need to consult
their doctors to arrange an action plan.
Mr FRANCIS says many people may only get red and itchy in the area around the sting,
but others may suffer a more severe reaction including blocking of the airways.
Possible treatment plans include carrying adrenalin and antihistamines to use if stung.
