Vic: Prime Minister to visit central Victoria today

MELBOURNE, April 21 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard will visit the towns of Seymour,
Kilmore and Wallan as part of his four-day Victorian pre-election visit today.

The central Victorian towns are in the seat of McEwen, one of a handful of key Victorian
seats the government needs to win to hold on to power at the next election.

McEwen is held by Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Fran Bailey, who won by less
than 2,000 votes at the last election.

She now holds McEwen by a margin of 2.9 per cent after the redistribution of the electorate
was favourable to the Liberals.

Mr Howard will visit a factory in Seymour, 95km north of Melbourne, and will attend
a community morning tea and visit a school at Kilmore, 62km north of Melbourne.

He will visit another school at nearby Wallan.

Both Mr Howard and Opposition Leader Mark Latham will be touring marginal seats across
Victoria in the coming weeks as the election battle hots up.

Mr Howard will head a full cabinet meeting in Melbourne tomorrow.

Mr Latham will join the fray next Wednesday when he begins a bus tour of key Victorian seats.

In an attempt to recreate the success of his regional bus tour in NSW, Mr Latham will
hold community forums fielding questions from locals.
